High Street Hero Award For Maybugs

Just seven days after winning a Greats trophy at The Gift Awards (11 May) as winner of the Best Retailer Initiative category, Maybugs, which has stores in Bexhilli-on-Sea, Eastbourne and Hailsham, was doubly honoured to receive the High Street Hero award at the Small Awards organised by Small Business Britain. The winners of all categories were revealed on 18 May.

The award was presented to Greg and John by TV presenter Sue Perkins and Dan Welch from TSB Business Banking, awards sponsor.

“We are gobsmacked to be recognised as the best independent high street business in the UK for all the community work we do. It’s amazing,” exclaimed Maybugs’ Greg Rose. “When we set up Maybugs six years ago we could never of dreamt of winning such an important accolade and it drives us to grow Maybugs and build on its success.”

Added co-owner Jon Dale: “We’ve always believed that we can only be successful if the towns we are in are successful too, and we will continue to keep promoting all the independents local to our stores to benefit the towns as a whole.”

The Small Awards recognise strong high street businesses that have a proven record of contributing towards the success of their street. The shortlisted businesses are all  active members of their community and work to drive footfall to their business and neighbouring businesses, with the award recognising that they are doing something exceptional with their premises.

Eleven categories cover everything from sustainability heroes, to digital stars, to long-standing family businesses.

Judged by a panel of industry experts, the winners across all categories, along with the overall winner of Small Business of the Year, were announced at an awards event held at St Mary’s Church in London.
