How We’re Making It Work: Seven Days On

With homewares making up over 50% of Mooch Gifts & Home’s product mix, co-owners Jon May and Luke Jacks re-opened their stores in Bewdley and Stourport on Severn on June 10, five days before the government’s official re-opening date of June 15.

“We’ve had a great first week, with healthy sales in both stores, despite our reduced hours and numbers allowed in, with Saturday being almost like a regular Saturday,” reported Jon.

“In fact, we’ve traded higher than planned which is excellent news.”

Home Accessories have proved very popular with feature clocks and houseplants among Mooch’s best selling ranges, along with candles and greeting cards. Adds Jon: “Shoppers have been ‘treating’ themselves, with our average spend over £25 per customer.”

With Father’s Day homing into view this Sunday (June 21), there have been strong sales online as well as a social media campaign and window graphics, with ranges also available in store. “In fact, we only have limited stocks available now, having taken the decision not to re-stock specific ‘dad’ ranges,” Jon explains.

He adds: “Online continues to remain very healthy with free local deliveries proving popular for those not feeling confident yet to shop in-store.”
