Gift Shop Owner Interviewed On ITV News Central

As some multiple retailers tentatively start to re-open their stores – among them Greggs, B&Q, Homebase and Timpson  – Jon May, co-owner of Mooch Gifts & Home, which has shops in Bewdley and Stourport on Severn, was interviewed by ITV News Central on Monday (April 27) about the knock on effect for small independent high street shops.

The news item detailed how the lockdown has impacted on the UK’s retail sales figures, with Jon asked for his views regarding the impact that Covid-19 will have on the high street going forward.

“I explained that the landscape will have to change for those businesses that survive,”he told GiftsandHome.net. “Moving forward, most businesses’ trading model will have to change as we transition out of lockdown, with more and more small shops looking to sell online.”

Since the lockdown began, Mooch Gifts & Home has been extremely proactive across all its channels, to include running competitions and other marketing activities on social media. Among the gift shop’s most successful promotion has been Mystery Bags, with Mooch also currently running a Paint Our Shop initiative to encourage families to get creative.

“We are continuing to think of ways of attracting new footfall to our online store, and, with upcycling in mind, we will be launching furniture paint again, with a new company called Cornish Mineral Milk Paint,” confirms Jon.
