TrendBible’s Trend Predictions At Autumn Fair

In collaboration with TrendBible, Autumn Fair hosted two trend presentations at the show on Monday (5 September) focusing on key lifestyle trends for home, gifting and celebration, revealing insights into the consumer behaviour and lifestyle choices that will underpin product and design trends over the next 12 months.

Presented by Naomi Pollard, head of publications at TrendBible, the first presentation focused on ‘Home And Lifestyle Trends For 2024’ with an overview of four key macro trends that will carry through the year – The Great Renovation; Meta Discovery; Democratising Domesticity and Inherent In Nature.

She said that the Great Renovation will see households and the home becomes a sanctuary, with blended families needing more flexibility, and a continued focus moves towards a more carbon neutral future.  “Textile is key in this trend as the psychological impact of colours take effect, with peachy apricots and deep dark browns injecting warmth,” stated Naomi. “This is translated into product with consumers starting to future proof with quality items that can be adapted to weather specific elements.”

Four SS24 trends were also highlighted: Avatar Lounge, Natural Balance, Memory Collectors and Space to Heal, with Space to Heal at the intersection of self-care and sustainability. “The self-care movement is maturing, and we’re entering an anti-hustle mindset where the focus is on the sustainability of a lifestyle,”explained Naomi. “Comfort is found in a heightened sense of what is around us and what we really need. This is a meaningful form of minimalism, where softness sits alongside frugality with a pastel colour palette, designed for mixing and matching providing opportunities for layering of décor.”

Looking ahead to Autumn/Winter 2024/25, Naomi highlighted Soul Searching, The Last Forest, High Vibe and Rework, with Rework touching on the new fundamentals in functional interiors, future proofing and playful utility. Products cover a wide scope, with a focus on making and mending, a greater respect for makers, where workmanship replaces craftsmanship. Home accessories are set to be functional and playful, elevating mundane items in the home to bring joy.

The afternoon trends session – ‘TrendBible’s AW24 Gifting And Celebration Trends’ – gave insight into two trends – Modern Love and Retracing Roots. Modern Love is inspired by a melting pot of anti-establishment movements embracing goth and punk, with gothic typefaces sitting alongside Neo-traditional tattoo inspired illustrations, and ‘rock hand’ motifs. “There is a heavy dose of dark humour and profanity which clashes with the sugary sweet, overtly feminine touches that include bold pink and red stripes, lips and heart repeat patterns,” Naomi explained.

Retracing Roots meanwhile, will bring a sense of connection. “There’s a Northeast European theme emerging driven by socio political factors,” pointed out Naomi, “with traditional carved wooden ornaments designed to be passed through generations. The spotlight will be on  Eastern Europe influences pattern and illustration with folk inspired florals.” She added that the palette is rich, with florals for the winter season and rich berry tones feeling comforting and nostalgic, with classic reds and greens sitting alongside burgundy wine shades, and delicate gold and pale pinks adding  magic and luxury. Dense florals too, will be showcasing the richness of the palette.
