Online gift retailer Michelle Henriksen is looking forward to opening her first bricks and mortar store – Personalised Gifts in Ormskirk – later this month, with the store filling a gap in the market for made-to-order gifts, homewares and much more besides.
Selling handmade jewellery, mugs, aprons, chopping boards, metal signs, baby-grows, tops, coasters, beach bags and tote bags, as well as t-shirts and hoodies, Michelle hand makes or hand-prints each of the items, with almost everything in the store able to be personalised with names, special messages and dates.
With a passion for gift-making, crafting and supporting local businesses, she highlights that her gifts will bring something different to the market in Lancashire, and hopes the store will encourage more people to support local businesses rather than large-scale online retailers.
“Following the pandemic, it’s proving more important than ever that people support local,” says Michelle. “Equally, I believe in-person shops are becoming increasingly popular again, with more people wishing to purchase their gifts right away. One reason is an increase in people who are focusing on sustainability and the impact of their carbon footprint.”
Continues Michelle: “When ordering gifts online from huge retailers, it often comes with heaps of plastic packaging and the impact of constant deliveries isn’t exactly great for the environment – which I think people are starting to realise. Additionally, people simply want to purchase gifts and other items without the hassle of returns, incorrect deliveries and long waiting times.”
The new store opens on 20 August.
