Why We’re Backing The Greats Awards: Joe Davies’ Paul Hooker

Since their inception in 2003, Joe Davies has been a long-time sponsor of The Greats Awards, with the company’s managing director, Paul Hooker, revealing why sponsoring the Awards continues to be so important to the company.

This year, the winners will be revealed at the inaugural The Gift Awards taking place at London’s Royal Lancaster Hotel on 12 May, bring together The Giftware Association’s Gift of the Year Awards and The Greats gift retailer awards – currently celebrating their 20th milestone year – organised and owned by Max Publishing, publishers of Progressive Gifts & Home/GiftsandHome.net.

At the lavish awards event, both gift product excellence and retail prowess will be recognised and rewarded.

“Independent retailers are at the heart of Joe Davies and, once again, we are delighted to sponsor this year’s Greats Awards,” states Paul.  “The Awards capture everything that is so special about our industry.   They recognise the dedication and hard work of retailers that innovate continuously to make their stores stand out from the crowd.   It’s these amazing innovators, and other people like them, that make the gift trade such a bright and vibrant marketplace.   There have been huge challenges over the last two years, which independent retailers have met head on, proving to be incredibly resilient.”

Continues Paul: “This year, more than most, Joe Davies being a sponsor of the Best Independent Retailer North, Northern Ireland & Scotland category is about so much more than putting our name to an award. It’s about supporting and recognising all the hardworking people that make our industry what it is all year round.”

On the product front, Paul reveals that Joe Davies’ surprise trend for Spring Summer has  been the company’s everyday ranges of gonks.  “Grassy Gonks and bright Garden Gonks are a perfect example, and a big hit with garden centres,” confirms Paul,  “complemented by a range of Village Pottery Tealight Gonks.”  Strong pre-orders have also been received for the company’s range of Sentiment Pebble Gonks across the range.

Adds Paul: “After seeing the popularity of all things gonk-related at Christmas, we developed some everyday collections and the demand has really surprised us all. We have lots of new development in the pipeline too.”

The company is also taking strong pre-orders its Christmas gonks offer across the range, with everything available using Joe Davies’ trademark ‘Little & Often’ order system.
