Ducklings That Are Helping To Raise Funds

DCUK’s Nurse Ducklings have always been popular as gifts but, as director Craig Wensley explains, during coronavirus the hand-carved ducks in nostalgic blue uniforms and neat white caps became almost symbolic of the times.

“When we started receiving photos of NHS staff with our Nurse Ducklings it was pretty emotional,” explained Craig. “Then we learned that the Macmillan Cancer Unit had purchased dozens of ducks to thank the nursing staff at the West Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust. That really inspired our charity duckling, the Dinky Nurse.”

Launched in June, 20% of the price of each Dinky Nurse is donated to St Luke’s, DCUK’s local hospice.

“The ducks are very loveable,” says Craig, “and we’ve learned over the years that that makes people feel loved. Our hope is that the Dinky Nurse will help people to express their love and gratitude.”
