What Gifts Would Boris And Jeremy Exchange At Christmas?

At the end of the first television General Election debate on Tuesday (November 19) that saw Boris Johnson and Jeremy Corbyn go head to head on ITV’s Johnson v Corbyn, the leaders were asked by a member of the studio audience, Ben West, what they would give each other for Christmas.

“We should all learn to be kind at Christmas,” Ben told Boris and Jeremy, “including those we disagree with. With that in mind, leaving politics aside, what present would leave for each other under the Christmas tree this year?”

Presenter Julie Etchingham posed the question to Jeremy Corbyn first. “I know Mr Johnson likes a good read so I would probably leave a copy of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol under the Christmas tree so that he could understand how nasty Scrooge was,” he replied.

Responding, Boris Johnson said that he would leave a copy of his “brilliant Brexit deal” under the tree.” When reminded that the gift had to be non-political, he responded: “I think Mr Corbyn shares my love of plants and trees so I would leave him a pot of my homemade damson jam.”
