Are you a High Street Hero?

Once again, communities across the country are being urged to nominate the UK’s unsung High Street Heroes for the Great British High Street Awards, a Government-run competition, in partnership with Visa, which recognises and celebrates local achievements on Britain’s high streets.

Last year, gift retailer David Robertson – managing director of gift shop Bijou in Elgin, and Pozzi in Buckie – won the Scotland category as a tireless high street campaigner. He was nominated by his local council in Moray in recognition of his dedication not only in boosting trade in Elgin, but also for the relationship that he has forged with schools over the past 15 years, as well as for his work in raising awareness on mental health issues.

The High Street Hero Awards set out to recognise local businesses who, through their innovation, energy, time or enthusiasm, stand out as leading lights on their high streets and in their local communities.

According to research by Visa, independent shops, to include gift stores, are currently leading the fightback, with 74% of small high street businesses feeling optimistic about the future of their local high street, up from 52% in 2018.

To enter, visit the Great British High Street website. The closing date entries is July 22.
