Last Thursday (November 20), was a very memorable one for gift shop Joco Interiors in Nuneaton. At special awards evening that saw the Coventry Evening Telegraph celebrating the Business Awards’ 25th anniversary, Joco was announced as the winner of the coveted Retailer of the Year 2019 category at a glitzy event hosted by Jeremy Vine at Coventry’s Ricoh Arena.
“I took my mum Linda, sister Jess and our senior shop assistant Debs Carey, along to support me, as well as to celebrate Joco’s achievement in reaching the finals for the second consecutive year,” Joco’s owner Jo Williams told GiftsandHome.net
“We had a video montage put together of the business which was played as each finalist was announced. When Joco’s name was announced as the winner of the category, we all started screaming and cheering! At the time, we were live on Facebook too, with customers able to watch the result at the same time as us.”
She continues: “We have been blown away by the amount of ‘likes’ and comments on our social media channels. I’ve been stopped by other business owners to congratulate me as the owner of the shop, but also, to congratulate us as a team. It is a wonderful achievement not only for me, but those that work at Joco as well as the town of Nuneaton were we are based.
“I celebrate and champion our town high street at every opportunity and, despite the negativity surrounding retail at the moment, we, as a small independent, work extremely hard to keep our town open for business.”
The Coventry Evening Telegraph awards feature 12 categories, with winner and finalists representing from businesses across Coventry and Warwickshire.
Earlier this month, Joco Interiors was commended at the 25 Best Small Shops Awards held at the House of Commons.
Jo Interiors was the proud winner of The Greats 2019 Independent Gift Retailer of the Year – Midlands & Wales category in May.
